The Wellington is a historic, traditional pub/inn with a few rooms upstairs. Being an older construction, the owners did a great job in making the rooms comfortable and unique. My room had a small, modern and efficient shower with a small sink as well. My toilet was down the hall and private. Downstairs in the pub, the staff was incredibly friendly and it had the feeling of being welcomed into the family. I was thinking of exploring the surrounding neighborhood, but Tom at the bar was so cheerful and easy going, i stayed and had the Lamb Shank dinner. In all honesty, i have been in the UK for over a month now and i have sadly discovered to lower my expectations with the traditional British menus. But the Lamb Shank suprised me as a dish i can rave about when i get back home to the USA. Additionally, being an overnight guest, everything was 15% discount for food and drinks!! If you are looking for a relaxed, friendly atmosphere that has some of the Old World charm, then Tom and the rest of the crew will trwat you just right!!!! The location can’t be beat for sitting right in the middle of the historic district.

We arrived around 1-15pm on Saturday, as luck would have there was a parking space right outside The Wellington. Popped in on the off chance we could collect the parking permit which was offered with the booking. Not only did we get the permit, we were able to check early in and drop our bags as well. Result! Excellent, helpful friendly gentleman on reception who showed us to our room. Our room, room 4, was clean and bright, with a lovely comfortable bed, views of the historic Hot Walls down the road. Tidy compact bathroom, with fresh fluffy clean towels. We didn't eat breakfast at The Wellington. However, The Canteen along the Hot Walls was recommended for breakfast by The Wellington. All in all a very enjoyable overnight stay for a family birthday near by and a nice Sunday morning walk around Old Portsmouth and the beach to watch the Hovercraft arrive.

Nothing negative to report, great location. We will definitely return to sample the extensive menu.

Great location: originally intended to be just a stop-over, but provided a good night out in Portsmouth with it being right next to the old town, Spice Island etc. Nice comfortable room which is above a traditional pub serving (what certainly looked like) great food. Staff were polite and helpful.

The room seemed a bit of an odd shape and design, although overall it was really good. Some nicer quilts could be provided for those intending to use the sofa-bed as the only one I could find was well-worn and miscoloured.

Efficient friendly Bar Staff, good food etc. Location exceptional. Parking organised by owner exceptional.

We had the Executive Suite, it was very well furnished etc only issue for us was that it seemed odd having to pass through the bathroom/ toilet on entering the suite to get to the bedroom. Evening meal very good, sticky toffee pudding up there with the best I have had. Breakfast , I had the full english my wife had eggs benedict, large portions of quality food neither of us could eat it all , didn't need lunch !

The hotel was located within just a few strides of where we were attending a large family gathering, right where we wanted to be. The room was on the small side but had everything we needed. Breakfast was excellent, as was the general service.

We were grateful to have somewhere private to park our car, as parking in this part of the City is somewhat under pressure. But everyone else attending our event found parking, so maybe we should not have worried!

Warm welcome from the staff.Nicely appointed double room with TV ,tea and coffee facilities, fluffy white towels and bath goodies.Pristine white cotton sheets and comfy bed. Private entrance to rooms. Was offered a late checkout and the staff kindly let me leave my bag with them as I was only catching the late ferry.I booked last minute and the Wellington exceeded my expectations .I would definitely stay here again 👍

Beautiful Georgian building, I think. Can park outside for just £3 a day. In heart of old Portsmouth so many attractions just a short walk away. I parked car for weekend didn't need to drive. Food was exceptional , manager was so helpful and welcoming. In walking distance was blue reef aquarium, cathedral, ferry's, gun wharf, spinnaker, victory and museums on historic Dock and more. We'll be back as so much more to see. Would recommend The Canteen just 2mins walk from Wellington for breakfast, it's beautiful, built in round part of historic Wall and again exceptional food, we had eggs Royal and best I've had. I added picture of road going up to The canteen where we had breakfast, this is in front of building and we had view of historic wall Fort and could see boats coming in

Nothing, loved the Wellington. Will be back as soon as can. It was just me and seven year old in room and we both loved it and Portsmouth. Portsmouth is educational and fun for kids

Spotless room, with lovely furnishings. The food in the restaurant below the hotel was top notch, 5*. The staff were friendly and the bar had a great selection of beers! Location was great, Old Portsmouth right in between Southsea and Portsmouth city.

It was VERY warm in the room, and the toilet macerators are quite loud. Other than this I've got no complaints at all!

The staff. Especially Tom. He was incredible. Also the Sunday lunch was AMAZING.

Would have been better if the room was serviced. We stayed for 2 nights. We did, however, get clean towels as we requested them.

Tommy was so lovely, so friendly and helpful. The location is great and it’s good price. we didn’t eat there but the food smelt lovely. There is WiFi but it’s not very strong, there is terrible signal is most places in Portsmouth so be warned!

the mattress needs to be replaced and the toilet makes/drains make a lot of noise.
