Fir Tree Barn

Very easy to find, and our host was really friendly and helpful. The parking is very secure. The complex is really lovely, inside and out. The room is well provided with two chairs and desk. The little patio is a great bonus. We enjoyed sitting out. The breakfast was full of choices and copious. All in all this is a well thought out B&B with guests comfort being the core priority. Both this accommodation and the pub along the road had a lovely welcoming ethos. We would certainly hope to stay agan when we are travelling from north to south via A1M.

We received a friendly welcome on arrival. The room was really comfortable and spotlessly clean. The breakfast buffet had a good variety with cereal, bread, pastries and fruit - the coffee and hot chocolate were both excellent. We really liked the access to shared kitchen facilities - although we weren't there long enough to need the oven or hob, it was good to be able to get plates to eat our takeaway! While Pollington certainly doesn't feel like a hotbed of car crime, it was nice to be able to park securely behind a locked gate. And finally... really good value! Half the price of staying in (much less good) accommodation a few miles away in York.

Lots of variety at breakfast from Cereals, toast, crumpets, fresh fruit, yoghurts, muffins, eggs etc. It was also lovely to have use of the kitchen in the evening to prepare a meal, or alternatively, get a takeaway and reheat if necessary. There is also a guest fridge and freezer to use which is great. Our room was lovely and spacious with a very large bed which was super comfy.

In my opinion, there is nothing to dislike. This is our second time staying here. Each time we were greated by Iain who is friendly and welcoming. The first time we stayed was to attend a funeral. Whereas this time it was for pleasure.

Fir tree barn is lovely, really nice room, very modern and tasteful, a great location, nice and quiet, but not too far to travel into York and other places. Kitchen facilities were great, breakfast was lovely and lots of choice. Felt very secure behind the automated gates and appreciated the hosts are happy to let guests come and go as they please. Would recommend to anyone looking to stay in this area and would also visit again ourselves.

I wouldn't say there was anything we didn't like. We do normally opt for places with a full English included, but to be honest this made a nice change, so of you're thinking the same, don't worry, the continental breakfast is just as satisfying as a cooked one. Of course there's the option to cook yourself if you really wanted to anyway, so best of both worlds! Also, if you're looking to get anywhere via taxi, book well in advance! Shout out to Wans taxi though, top bloke who helped us out!

What a fab Hidden Gem! Located in a quiet little village away from the beaten track. Doesn’t look much from the front but inside it’s bright clean spacious and Iain is an organised, friendly, approachable host. Honestly really surprised me and such a fab place to stay, definitely have this one on my go back too list!

We were there on one of the hottest days of the year and an outside space for sitting & relaxing would have been nice but certainly didn’t detract from the place as there is a public park 50 odd meters away, the village is lovely & there’s a nice little pub 10/15 minutes walk away too!

The standard of the room and facilities far exceeded my expectations. The room was of a high standard, large, very clean and comfortable. The kitchen facilities were great and the 'help yourself' breakfast very good. We liked that the kitchen was available to make tea, coffee or to eat a takeaway if required. The owner was friendly and helpful. We particularly liked the gated parking, so felt our car was very secure. Modern bathroom and super hot shower. Lovely quiet room and exceptional value for such a superb B&B

Nothing. We could not fault this accomodation. We'd had difficulty finding somewhere to stay and had not expected Fir Tree Barn to be as good as it is.

private gates and car park on arrival. our room was beautifully clean and decorated. king size bed and sofa in the room. everything explained on arrival and shown the breakfast room. Iain was friendly and welcoming. really nice choice of breakfast food, along with a yummy piece of cake. spoke to other guests during breakfast and they all seemed to enjoy their stay too. would definitely recommend this B&B. The only feedback I would give are the floor boards are a bit creaky but not a problem, sort of added to the character of the place and gave the impression it was an old barn.

Iain was very welcoming and helpful. Accommodation is in a motel style annexe with a communal kitchen - room 3 overlooks farm fields. Very clean and comfortable. Breakfast is 'help yourself' with a good variety and suits all tastes. Secure parking with gate access. Local pub (The Kings Head) is a six minute walk - food seems a little variable but not expensive. I would definitely return to Fir Tree Barn.

Nothing - if I was being really critical the room walls seem thin, some noise from neighbours but not obtrusive.

The location, Pollington, is a gem of a village on the East Yorkshire/Lincolnshire border. The place here is run by super attentive and switched-on hosts, who clearly devote a lot of time and effort into the upkeep of what is a very pleasant place to stay. The room I stayed in was incredibly nice and uplifting, with a view out into a field/paddock directly out the back. While the room even benefitted from a terrace (complete with comfort seating) unfortunately it wasn't the best time of the year to be sat outside for long periods. As well as all the facilities you'd expect to be on hand, the room/place as a whole really was ultra-clean and presentable too; testament to the lengths the hosts go to, to ensure guests' stays are as pleasant as they can possibly be. The block of rooms also share a communal kitchen/seating area, which again, is also a very pleasant space to enjoy. I could definitely stay at this place for long periods, and it likely serves well as a base for outdoor pursuits such as rambling and also angling. Although I didn't go in during my one night stay, just down the road there is what looks to be a very pleasant village pub. All in all, while the price to stay here is mid-range, in relative terms it's up there with the best (hence the score !)

If I were to have any possible gripes, the only thing that really springs to mind is that the bed pillows were a little thick/springy for my liking, although at the same time others might beg to differ. While the small courtyard houses guests' cars, with mine being quite loud at start-up I did feel a bit guilty in going back out in the evening (in it), given I was parked directly alongside the bank of front facing rooms - I hope I didn't create any disturbance in doing so

Easy to find considering its scenic location. Secure off road, gated parking. Super friendly and accommodating host. I really wasn't expecting as much selection with the breakfast as there was for continental so well done! Housekeeping was brilliant, room was lovely and clean.

If I was really being pedantic we brought our Now TV stick/remote to plug into the Tele and unfortunately there wasn't enough room behind the TV for it to fit. Totally not the end of the world though as we had board games and music to keep us entertained!
