Muthu Newton Hotel (Near Inverness Airport)

Lovely garden, Highland cows, sheep, gorgeous beach walk nearby Pretty garden room

Asked for a quiet room but the restaurant was just below me (heard everyone talking until nearly 23:00), walls to adjacent rooms are thin, upstairs guests sounded like they were coming through the roof when walking around (my bed even shook as they walked around…until after midnight). No assistance with luggage offered, and room was up an elevator, then up and down several steps. Room decor was pretty but main hotel areas could better reflect the history of the property. A long walk (but doable) from town - we were lucky it wasn’t raining.

Location and accommodation were beautiful. It was definitely a grand entrance and there was a few animals on the property (a few furry coos) that made our walks more entertaining. Definitely a great place to stay to have a lush Scottish experience. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful as well.

We found out while walking around they were doing some kind of tour (that apparently happened often). It would have been nice to know of any kind of historic information about the building or any tours available when we checked in, or posted somewhere....but other than that we had no complaints.

Helpful friendly receptionist on arrival. Lovely room. Great location. Nice bar. Friendly breakfast staff. Lovely breakfast. Great sleep. Great bathroom facilities. I think this hotel sells itself a bit short by advertising near the airport, and trying to make this the selling point. As I know the area, I knew it was in Nairn and not beside the airport. I wouldnt have booked it had it been too close to the airport. It's location in Nairn is fantastic and a short commute from Inverness. The gardens and setting in Nairn are lovely.

The bar man unfortunately didnt appear to know the cocktail list in the bar. He followed an instruction plan to make it but the drink wasnt very nice. It would be good if staff could practice and taste what they make as this might give them a better idea what they should be serving to customers. Some of the furniture and interior are tired in places, but a lovely hotel. We enjoyed our stay. Lovely decorated bar and nice outdoor seating towards the sea.

Breakfast was fantastic with excellent choice on the menu for hot items. The bedroom had a lovely view of the large garden and the Executive room was more of a suite with an armchair seating area, as well as a large bathroom with superb, thermostatic rainfall shower facility....as well as a bath. Being only 20 minutes easy drive from Inverness airport was a great benefit. Helpful, friendly and attentive staff provided the "icing on a very tasteful cake".

There was nothing that resulted in anything that would detract from a superb venue, and made for a fantastic 5 day break of exceptional value.

We liked everything and the staff overall. Personally Stevie, one of the waiters, was exceptionally kind to me. I have tummy problems and cannot eat large main meals and as I hate food waste tended to only have the starters for the main meal. He spoke with the chefs about my dilemma who asked him to let me know that all mains could be cut down thus avoiding me having to leave large amounts of food. By the way the food at breakfast and dinner was well cooked and presented with plenty of variety.

This may sound trivial but flushing the toilet was sometimes difficult due to the “plug” not connecting properly. We meant to mention it when we booked out but forgot. That was the only thing. Everything else was fine.

The hotel is often used by myself and colleagues as it is always clean tidy with great staff, Also ideal location for our site visits in the highlands. Value for money was excellent .Room 216 was ok a bit smaller than normal but was sufficient .Shower was the best in any hotel i have stayed , very powerful and well controlled for temperature .

The hotel is often used by myself and colleague's , It is becoming apparent that some major refurbishment will be required soon, as the rooms are tired and in need of some TLC. Bathroom floor tiles in my room 216 were lifting and i had concerns over catching my feet on tiles edges , particularly around the Toilet seat area. Bedroom walls in the daylight were scuffed and in need of re-decoration . I am being really pernickety as I love this hotel and also appreciate the time of the year and hope a pre peak season tidy up will be planned . Also think the food in the conservatory was excellent but slightly over priced.

We were upgraded to the Finlay suite free. It was quaint and huge. Absolutely beautiful view across the bay. Breakfast was lovely although it would have been nice to be able to finish toast before the hot food arrived. Receptionist was absolutely lovely. The Hotel was gorgeous and the grounds are divine

The decòr was dated but was in keeping with the atmosphere of the suite, tv was tiny for the size of the room and the reception on it was very hit and miss. It really needed a mini fridge so we could store our fresh milk.

Location and surrounding were excellent as we're the staff.

They struggled to cope when a large group were there with regards to serving the Hotel guests for evening meals. Had reservation delayed twice through this and by a considerable amount, around 2 hours. This we presume was due to low staffing levels in the kitchen as plenty of serving staff around. Very little by way of apology or reason why, other than there is a large group in!

Room was large and very comfortable, Breakfast was really good and staff were excellent,Dinner was also very good with a good choice on the menu,

we tried to book a bar meal on first night but were told orders finished at 6 but the menu in the bar said 8, Because of this we decided to book the restaurant but again were very restricted with times as there was a bus party every night and we had to fit in because obviously the chef would be busy with a bus party.

Breakfast was good on all three days. Coffee and toast served promptly and in a friendly manner.

Upon checking out, I was halfway through telling the female receptionist which room I was checking out from when an elderly male member of staff interrupted and proceeded to talk to the receptionist without any consideration for my existence! Once they had finished their conversation, the female receptionist asked for my room number again. She checked the computer then said, "That's ok." She didn't ask if I'd enjoyed my stay or anything. Up to that point I had enjoyed the stay at the hotel but I'm afraid this left a bad taste in my mouth, especially considering the fact that the receptionist upon arriving (a different one) couldn't have been more helpful.
