Sue, the landlady was outstanding - attentive to our every need, ran a splendid traditional country pub (not a glitzy gin palace). The regulars were great company, as were their dogs. There are few genuine old fashioned pubs like this left. Combined with good ensuite accommodation and an exceptional landlady it was just right for our elderly gentlemen's walking holiday in this lovely border area.

Nothing - for a group like ours it was just right. Fastidious seekers of luxury accommodation would doubtless need somewhere more like a five star international hotel!

A simple traditional pub offering good local ales and local produce used in meals. Comfy beds.. Wirh lovely garden and friendly locals

There was nothing I didn't like. Sue the landlady is working hard in this current financial climate to offer good value accommodation Therefore the pub opens weekday evenings and restricted hours particularly on Sunday so check if staying Sunday regarding food.

It was a very friendly atmosphere and I was made to feel welcome as was my dog. It was very nice to find an ‘pet friendly’ establishment that does not charge extra for pet’s stay. It is also getting getting increasingly rare to find and establishment that includes breakfast in their booking price.

Nice warm welcome from owners and locals. Great breakfast and good pub food in the evening Old quirky building which we liked. Very quiet at night. Lots of dogs which we also liked especially the resident Nettle.

Shower was disappointing. Poor flow and slow drain. Also maserator pump was noisy if you flushed the loo at night.

Breakfast was very good. The landlady was excellent....just as a pub landlady should be. All the staff were very friendly. We even got our golf party of 8 in for an evening meal even though some were staying at another hotel and everyone commented how lovely the food and service was.

The welcome from the staff was very friendly and even though we were late nothing was a problem. The garden was pretty and the atmosphere was great. This is a lovely traditional pub.

A very comfortable, friendly pub, and excellent value for money. The timber-framed building is full of character - we loved it!

Some fresh fruit with breakfast would have been a bonus. Although we have no complaints about the breakfast itself (full English) which was delicious!

We had a lovely two night stay at The Royal Oak. Perfect location for walks and three National Trust visits. The breakfast were very tasty, also had two nice evening meals. All staff were lovely and easy to talk to. And Nettle the dog was very friendly

Nothing to dislike.

The relaxed feeling and welcoming staff. Friendly, regular customers resulting in a strong sense of community. Requesting a packed lunch for the next stage of walking was met with an immediate ‘no trouble’ and we were provided with a very generous portion.
