The Dark Horse pub itself is a very welcoming and warm place. The manager who checked us in was friendly and down-to-earth, which put us right at ease. We had a secure private entrance that was separate from the pub so that was comforting, as well as meaning we could stay out in Bristol as long as we wanted. The room itself was a good size, and pleasantly decorated. It was lovely and warm, with great solid wood furniture. The bed was extremely comfortable and a great size, with plenty of pillows and a soft duvet. The bathroom was nicely renovated with a good sized shower that had great water pressure and was very easy to use. The towels provided were very soft and absorbent too. Yes the pub is on a busy street but we weren't bothered by the traffic noise at all, and despite arriving on a Friday night, the busy pub wasn't too noisy either. A hairdryer with attachments was provided, as well as shampoo and conditioner. There was a good sized kettle with tea and coffee, with milk available to order from the pub (to cut down on waste). There are loads of cafes and there's an Aldi opposite with a Tesco a 1 min walk down the road so there's lots of amenities close by. We loved our short stay and would absolutely stay here again!

The only thing I can think of is the loo roll holder was broken. But it really didn't matter and didn't affect our experience at all.

The property was ideally situated on a bus route to the city centre and was reasonably priced. There is a car park just behind it and as long as you get there after 3pm it’s free until 11am the following morning. The staff were really friendly. We were struggling getting a cab to an event we were going to and one of the staff booked us an Uber and refused to take any money for it. We had a really comfortable nights sleep. The mattress was good and the pillows not too hard. There was proper filter coffee in the rooms and you got fresh milk from the bar. The bar is situated on a busy lively main road but they provided earplugs which worked surprisingly well. We were out until late so by the time we got back most of the street noise had gone. We’d definitely stay again if we came down to Bristol.

The cleaning could do with just a little bit of attention to detail. The cups, glasses and teaspoons were a little dirty and the plastic orchids in the room could do to be taken outside and given a shake and a feather dust. Grouting in the shower was a little discoloured with shower gel etc and a little bit of bleach spray would sort it out. The bar does play loud music until 1am and it has a roof terrace next to the rooms which I imagine on a summers evening could be a bit loud. (provided ear plugs worked great). Don’t let this put you off though. If you’re after a reasonably priced room for a night close to the city you can’t go wrong with this place

We chose the location so knew when we booked that there was no breakfast, we were over a pub (it would be noisy) and on a busy road. The staff at the Dark Horse were great and, of particular note, is the Sunday roast dinner. A must. Good choice of beer and gin! There are plenty of places for Breakfast. We particularly liked Laila for the Turkish breakfast, and the Faraway Tree with their enormous veggie breakfast which is big enough for 2 to share. There are frequent buses into town. x

There are steepish stairs up to the accommodation floor so don't book if you have difficulty with stairs. I did expect (from the pictures) at least one quieter area for playing games, chatting or reading but the whole bar area has the same volume. The pub is busy at weekends, which was when we were, so don't book here if you want somewhere sort of quiet to sit and chat. There are other pubs nearby where that is possible.

There was a fan in the room so I could keep cool. I stayed on a Sunday night, so the pub downstairs wasn't noisy. Nice toiletries in the shower room & a big soft towel.

The car park in the road behind the pub is closed off with barriers & not usable. When I phoned the pub to inquire about parking, I was not told the car park was out of use. But the staff may have been unaware of the situation.

Very friendly staff, great coffee and cider selection. The bed was very comfy and although it was on a main road you could barely here the traffic. There is a car park at the rear that is free for 3 hours no return within 3 hours between 08 00 and 18 00. Free on Sunday, this worked out really well for us. Won't be for everyone but we loved it and would definitely go back. We could not here any noise from the pub downstairs or the terrace down the hall from the room's. However we didn't stay Friday or Saturday night. Overall 4 out of 5.

Not much really, please keep an eye on the toiletries guys. Also the automatic light when you enter from the terrace needs to be brighter.

Sitting in an outskirt of Bristol on a busy road our first impressions of The Dark Horse weren’t great. Pink caging enclosed the outdoor seating at the front of the pub but subtle touches like a small vase of flowers on each table slowly revealed the true nature of the Dark Horse. The pub is a welcoming, traditional venue with a modern twist. There’s a fantastic roof terrace too. The three rooms were an absolute revelation! Each have a fantastic shower and bathroom. The interior is classic modern. Light grey walls, up cycled or mid century pieces and interesting artwork give the rooms a contemporary and comfortable feel. Fluffy white cotton towels are on hand along with tea and coffee making facilities in the room. There’s no wardrobe but hooks and hangers offer enough opportunity to hang the few clothes you’d bring for what would essentially be a couple of days stay. Our room was at the back of the pub but to reassure you the busy road at the front is very quiet at night. The staff were very helpful and getting in and out even after the pub is shut is simple. No weird keys just a keypad entry which is a blessing. The pub is near a park and it’s a short bus journey into the city centre. There’s a nice organic cafe opposite for fresh coffee and croissants. I’d definitely stay here again. Many thanks to James and his team.

The information pack in the room doesn’t give a WiFi code and we kept forgetting to ask. We weren’t told what time checkout was so I got up relatively early when I could have stayed in bed a bit longer. There was also a bureau in the hallway which was a bit of an obstacle as it’s doors kept opening as you walked past. Maybe it was haunted. Maybe it wasn’t!

Location was ideal for us as we were between the centre of town and near my family. The Dark Horse staff was welcoming . We both loved it and go again.

My husband didnt like the stair up to the roof terrace and room. I had to be there to give him the confidence that it was ok.

The room was too light my eyes on entering. V tasteful presentation.

Outside of the room is the only thing that lets this listikg down and by no great means either. Only something to mention if pushed too ask. Which is the journey from curb side to bed side not being overly congruent

the pub was very nice and great location. The staff were very friendly and most accommodating. The bed was sooo nice and I was concerned about noise from the street or downstairs in the pub but it wasn’t an issue at all.

The stairs were narrow and steep but worth it for the roof terrace in the sun!

The staff were friendly and helpful, and the room had an ecológical slant, with no plastic mini milk and drink sachets, and shower gel etc.

Only the fact that It seems impossible to contact the agency to apply for a refund on the night we couldn't make It due to a flight cancellation. We're still trying.
