All of the staff were friendly and welcoming, the entire pub from top to bottom was beautifully presented, such lovely decor and finishing touches. The bed was amazing, huge and comfy. Food was absolutely superb!

Our room was beautiful but felt a bit claustrophobic as only had 2 little velux windows and only one of them opened. It was very hot weather whilst we were there and the room was incredibly hot. Thankfully we had packed a fan and took along, but even so maybe a portable air cooler would be a great addition to the rooms. The only other thing we would say needs addressing are the double doors that close off the bathroom. They are very noisy when you open and close them (not great when you need the bathroom a few times in the night) and one side in particular is very stiff and I had to push with my shoulder to open it to get out. Apart from those points, its an absolutely great place to stay.

Location was great, but there were roadworks that affected access but the hotel contacted us about these and how to bypass them and also offered to cancel the booking. The staff at breakfast were very friendly and were happy to cook extra crispy bacon ! Every single person we met during our short stay and wander around the village said hello. Check out the local churchyard and church - well worth a visit.

As we were attending a wedding, the lack of an option for an early check in so that we knew where to go etc was a bit of a pain and we had to leave the reception to come and sort out the room but that's the only gripe

This was a repeat visit for us (although previous visit was before lockdown!). It is a period building with many old features in the bar and restaurant. The guest rooms are accessed via an outside stairway although I think there is another inside staircase. Each room we have used (on a number of separate visits) has been renovated to a very high standard a good size, well equipped and decorated.

The waste packaging could perhaps be placed elsewhere? That said it is a old building and space is at a premium both in the pub garden area and the car park at the rear. It is worth noting the car park is shared with other pubs shops and businesses so can get very busy mid morning and during "happy hour" at the bar but we never had an issue with getting a space for overnight

The accommodation was very good. The layout is quirky to get to the rooms. Free parking in a car park past another pub. There’s a walkway into the back of the place. Food very good, we also had an evening meal there. The village it’s located in is very picturesque. We spent about 5 hours walking around it and the local area. Didn’t want to stay in Bristol but it’s located very close so the drive in is easy. Would recommend.

Difficult to fault the place. We did miss the stairs to get up to the room, but as I said a quirky layout.

This was a last minute booking given an early flight from Bristol and freezing weather conditions. The welcome/check in was friendly and efficient. The room was warm despite the sub zero temperature outside. The bed was super comfy and everything was as clean as it could be. The addition of hot chocolate to the usual tea and coffee was a nice extra. We dined in the bar, next to the open fire. The menu is extensive and the food was served quickly and was delicious. The chef magicked up a side of onion rings even though not on the menu. The bar was doing a good trade with locals on a cold December Tuesday - the management and staff are clearly doing something right! We didn't have a chance to enjoy the village but will return.

An automatic light on the stairs from the accommodation would have been appreciated; it felt a bit dicey at 5am. The vast bedroom (6) would benefit from a rug and a sofa/armchair to make it a bit cosier.

We stayed here to visit the Pony. The staff were excellent throughout the stay. They were helpful, polite and friendly. The breakfast was tasty and good value. Would visit again and recommend. King-size bed was very comfortable and the room was clean.

The room we stayed in had a sink and shower that didn't have a door to separate the spaces and the toilet was in a cupboard. When you turned on the light a very noisy fan went on and stayed on for a while. The shutters in the room didn't close completely and let in the early days light...bring an eye mask.

Breakfast on the whole was fair. My partner had the full English which on the whole looked good. i had the scrambled eggs and salmon unfortunately i noticed that the salmon was a little discoloured on the edge which i left. I mentioned this to the staff and got sone money off my breakfast.

Noise from the road was not good and kept me awake on the one night we stayed. Its a very busy cut through road and was a very busy weekend as a festival was taking place nearby.

lovely property. The room was spacious and had a large bed. it was all very clean and had a cool lamp as well as pear and apple tres outside. we had 3 windows so light and airy. We had a lot of our meals in the pub and they were excellent. All the staff were lovely. Great shop across the road with pasta and pulse refills, great local cheeses, bread and other produce.

Chew Magna seems a popular village. it has a couple of pubs as well as. Lazy Lobster and other shops so sometimes it was difficult to park - usually ok after 3pm

We stayed here, being the first of many stays whilst travelling around the UK. The Bear and Swan have set the bar very high. The room was excellent, a comfortable king bed with a quality bathroom... In addition, the staff were terrific, the food was delectable and the band in the beer garden were awesome.

Breakfast was included when booked, but not offered or included at the time of our stay? The blinds didn't keep the morning light very well.

When it comes to customer service you can’t fault the team here. We made contact to inform them that we would be arriving late and the member of staff on the phone said it wouldn’t be an issue. As we were running late we were given a call to check where we were and the member of staff stayed past closing to greet us ( even when we were given a code to access the key safe). We stayed in room 4 which was very cosy and the bed/duvet was a good as any 5* hotel. We were welcomed with smiles during breakfast and the chef cooked up a lovely breakfast. ( The sausages were very very tasty!) All in all we enjoyed our stay and wouldn’t hesitate to come back.
