Bloc Hotel Birmingham

I really liked the modern appearance and the fact you could control things from your phone. It was lovely and quiet, the room was very cosy and exceptionally clean. The staff were lovely too. Would definitely come back.

There was no Netflix on the TV as the website said there would be, which we were a little disappointed about. The device connection facility on the TV was good but wouldn’t work with Netflix either. We would’ve also liked if you could turn the LEDs on by themselves instead of having to have them on with other lights too, so the room wouldn’t be too light.

Really clean, smart hotel. Great decor. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. Room was on the ground floor as requested. Location was great. Very good value for money. I would stay again.

Room was an "accessible room" so had a wet room instead of a shower - was very nice but there was nowhere to store your own soaps etc. It also took a long time for the floor to dry after a shower - I was stepping in puddles when going to the loo. I'd booked a room without a window, which was fine, except the lights still weren't very bright. Meant the room always seemed dark.WiFi was also patchy, but was good enough to stream some videos.

I did not like my phone controlling absolutely everything, including the lift and light switches. A switch or button on the wall is way more convenient, felt gimmicky and like technology just for the sake of it. Caused constant frustration during our stay and I would not return because of this.

I have stayed here before and will return again. Staff are all friendly. I always choose a windowless room and always have a fabulous nights sleep. The room doesn't feel cramped. Comfy bed. Wet room is great. Feels safe for a solo female. Not far to walk to trams/train/bus. A huge choice of restaurants very close by. Room controls on phone is great. Hot drinks machine in lobby. There isn't a room for breakfast but I believe it's possible to have a continental breakfast delivered to your room (not 100% sure). There are many cafés and also local shops to purchase breakfast items.

The wet room floor took a very long time to dry on this visit. Pillows were all the same, and I found them a bit solid.

The room is small but perfectly fit for perfect. It was perfect for 2 people and was really nice and cosy. We had a brilliant stay. I liked that everything was controlled from your phone, and the WiFi worked well. I will definitely stay in blocs in the future.

There was an issue with the TV. The TV worked however there was an option for casting from your device however this did not work. A member of staff explained there had been trouble with the new Phillips tvs. The TVs were smart but not connected to the Internet so this didn't work. I think them not being connected to the Internet was the reason casting didn't work as it couldn't plat from phones. Also with them being on a different Internet to cast you had to disconnect from the free WiFi which meant all casting had to be done offline if it worked. This meant YouTube or another provider you cannot download from wouldn't work.

We had a room with no window which made for a perfect nights sleep. It felt like we were in a large bunk bed but in the best way possible. We were amazed at how this small incredibly affordable stay had such high end products and facilities such as the rain fall shower. There is easy access to the property through the link we were sent on our phones- this also turned the lights on and off, allowed us to cast on to the tv and change the climate of the room. Over all we are so impressed with the hotel and will be coming back to stay when we visit family again.

I liked the smart TV, the window view I had, the shower was quite powerful and I like how there were two shower heads. I liked how you could control lights, climate, TV and access via your phone. The bed was comfortable and spacious, and the facilities were all very clean.

It would've been nice to have a hook in the bathroom to hang your towel. Also, I don't like how easily the whole bathroom gets wet when you have a shower, I had to try and dry it so I could use the toilet. Also, the hotel was quite quiet on the whole but the room next to me was audible, especially their TV. I don't know if their TV was on very loud or if you could just hear easily through the walls. Also you could hear footsteps upstairs very easily, which woke me up early in the morning.

Quick easy check-in online Access to lift and room on phone, controls for AC, lights, and TV on phone. Easy to navigate. Close to Townhall, which is why we stayed there just a 15-minute slow walk. One disabled parking space just across from hotel, more on the square just down the road. Fair bit of on street parking. Hotel was lovely & clean. We had a room with no window (all that was left when booked) Was great to sleep in as pitch black. Comfy bed, onsuite is a wet room with good shower. Bullring just a shirt drive away. Would definitely stay here again.

That there was no tea/coffee in the room

Clean comfortable room, quite compact and not as many extras as standard hotel rooms but this is made very clear in the description/pictures and reflected in the price so not a criticism. Cleverly laid out to make the most of the space. Smart tv so good choice of things to watch including linking up your phone so you can cast other things. Absolutely loved the online check in and check out and the fact that you can do this on your phone whilst also using your phone to summon the lift, unlock your room door and control the lights and air con. Perfect if you're antisocial - but also the staff that we did see were really friendly and chatty so I wouldn't have had any issue going to them if needed

I can't really find any fault - you get what you pay for in terms of a compact room but this is made really clear when booking so was even nicer than I was expecting, there was still plenty of room and it was really clean and comfortable, no signs of wear and tear and finished to a high standard

The bed itself was very comfortable, the monsoon shower was heavenly, and while a compact room, it didn't at all feel small. The area was quiet, and the night was pitch black thanks to the lack of window. I slept wonderfully. The hotel felt very modern, as I didn't need to speak to a member of staff for my whole stay. My phone did it all - unlocking the stairwell and room door, controlling the TV/Lights/AC, and even checking in/out.

The one and only thing that stood out to me was that the pillows were too big. I felt like I needed a pillow which was half the height, as they almost hurt my neck. Aside from that, perhaps some in-room tea making facilities would be nice, but due to the size of the room I can see why it wasn't included. Room was perhaps a tad pricey, but honestly I can see why it was.
