Hotel Berne

The breakfast was good, we loved the big balcony of our room with a pool view. The room was a good size and the bathroom was all we needed. There was a good ambiance in the hotel, it felt homely and comfortable. There is a restaurant in the hotel which we didn't use but it came highly recommended. The location was fab with stunning mountain views around us. Good outside terrace to enjoy a drink and the views.

We spent 3 nights in this fabulous friendly family run hotel. After a long hot ride we were met by Marco who at once made us feel very welcome and later to meet his brother, both enjoyed a banter and laugh. Our room was lovely, clean with comfortable beds and a large terrace with views across the town to the mountains beyond. We enjoyed delicious dinners in the evening and an excellent selection at breakfast. Waiter Andre was a lovely friendly helpful guy, always full of smiles. We have no hesitation in recommending this well run, friendly hotel in beautiful Manteigas.

The staff were very accommodating when we decided to stay an extra night. They were very helpful and engaged with their customers. The hotel had a lovely family feel to it. The restaurant was open on both nights and the food was very good - we specially welcomed the excellent advice about our menu choices. An excellent breakfast was also included with the most delicious local honey and cheeses, among other delights. It was very good value for money.

Nothing to report apart from very firm pillows but we noticed that everywhere we stayed in Portugal so not specific to Hotel Berne. It was a very good place to stay and we would happily return.

Lovely old hotel in the mountains. I think the bathroom had been recently re done which was lovely but the actual bedroom was a little dated although the bed was comfortable. The staff at the hotel were very friendly, we had tea served in the lounge on arrival and the dinner menu was varied and the food good. Local wines were also very good. Up hill walk into town not worth the effort as very few shops or nice cafes. Tourist office very helpful and showed us a route to drive so that we saw everything the area had to offer in a day including a walk to a lovely waterfall. Breakfast choice was good with eggs etc.

A lovely traditional hotel. Only thing we would have liked was a coffee making machine and kettle in room.

The accommodation was very nice, the room was very spacious and with all the modern updates. We had a view of the pool but this was not too noisy which was good. The surroundings look very lovely. The people at the reception were very helpful, they helped us to book a local restaurant as there was no catering provided the days we were there. The breakfast selection was very good in the morning.

nothing - except the road is very long and 'twisty' to get to the town, but that's nothing to do with the hotel.

The swimming pool is amazing. We really appreciated using the pool and the garden when we came back from our trips from mountains. The staff are very nice, Mr. Berne and his family should be very proud of his family business. Everything was perfect.

Room was cosy and comfortable, with a balcony with a view to the village. Location was excellent for exploring serra da estrela's trails. Hotel staff is very helpful and professional. Nice breakfast and the hotel restaurant is very good.

The room blinds don't block the morning light very well, if you are sensitive to light you will wake up at daybreak. Breakfast could have a little more variety, but it's better than usual for a 3 star.

My husband and I had a 3 night stay at the Hotel Berne.whilst on a motorbike tour of the area. We found the hotel spotlessly clean with exceptionally hardworking friendly staff, excellent restaurant, and 5 star swimming pool I would definitely recommend .

Bed was a bit too firm for me, but I like a soft bed.

Almost at the very top of the village of Monsanto. Traditional building with good amenities. Very relaxing at night. Host lives close by and also has a small shop / restaurant. Ideal when you are out of season and nearly all the restaurants are closed.

There is no outside space unless you have a balcony. Mind you this is true for almost all rooms and restaurants on the mountain. This host also has rooms with balcony, but I was too late booking my stay to get one of them
