Second experience staying here, very restful, clean & quiet, great staff, great kitchen, nice "soft" furniture in the lounge | no bunk beds in the dorm room | solid WiFi | great location - Ponsonby is splendid |

My room (#9) faces south, a lot of afternoon sun, room gets warm, ceiling fan would help to circulate the air a little bit, because windows may only be opened a short distance | received the last bed in the room, it's next to the front door, so, you hear it slam shut late at night or early in the morning (earplugs help), it's also next to the door of the room, so when people enter/exit at night, light streams in (eyemask helps) | my room and bed during my first reservation was better |

It’s my second stay; precious was six years ago, and Verandahs still holds its standards, having upgraded some systems (power switches, heating, ..). Each bathroom/toilet cubicle is very large (could do with shelves and more hooks though). My single room was large, with a desk and chair, and a long enough clothes rail and hangers. It is quieter than you’d think, and Ponsonby Park just below is a treasure! Easy checkin and checkout.

Parking is still on a first come first serve basis, and only serves 6 vehicles approx. I got lucky and didn’t move the car, walked to eat out. A great place for visitors on foot or bikes. A suggestion: a couple of wee shelves would be handy in bathrooms, as well as a couple more hooks on wall panels for towels and clothes/gowns.

Really great hostel vibe, staff were very friendly and the location attracts a good range of travellers. Big communal kitchen so people seemed up for a chat and there's lots of space to eat and cook. Big rooms, so although there's not much privacy (no curtain for the bed) it didn't matter. All rooms close to shared bathroom/toilet. Nice outdoor space on the balcony, lovely views of the park, and big garden with washing line to dry clothes. Staff gave me a map and some local recommendations. Secure luggage storage to make the most of your time in the city. Hostel in a great location for food and drink options. Supermarket close by.

There was a bit of a drainage issue in the sink in one of the bathrooms but other than that it felt reasonably clean.

It was the best hotel! I wanted to book a single room for 3 days, but there was only a twin room available for 1 day, so I had no choice but to book a separate room for 1 day, but when I checked in, I was told that I would be in the same room for 3 days at the same price. She gave it to me. It was nice to have kind staff. Once, when I forgot my key in the room, I called them using the phone in the hallway, and they immediately came to help me. Very kind people will welcome you.

A lot of someone else's hair was falling down. I didn't want it to be dirty, so I asked for a vacuum cleaner to remove it.

I had an amazing stay at this hostel! Everything was fantastic, from the super clean facilities to the incredibly helpful staff. The hostel's beautiful garden was a definite highlight, offering a peaceful retreat from the bustling city. I was impressed by the attention to detail throughout the hostel, with everything from the dorm rooms to the communal spaces being impeccably maintained. The staff went above and beyond to ensure that my stay was comfortable and enjoyable, providing great recommendations for local sights and restaurants. I have very little to explain about what I didn't like. I am satisfied with my stay there.

Very nice and helpful staff. There was a large kitchen for storing food, cooking, socialising. The garden is lovely and good for sitting outside to eat. We had a private room which was basic but clean and spacious. It was a little hot and stuffy but it is an old building so to be expected. It would have been good to have a couple more/larger towels but the shower was good. The bathroom was very new and clean. It was about 30 min walk down to Auckland harbour which is downhill (long uphill walk to get back). We didnt get a bus card as we were only there for 2 nights and you couldnt use cash on buses to we walked or got ubers everywhere. There are some really nice restaurants just 5 min walk away- we had dinner and breakfast nearby. It seems to be quite a trendy area. We would stay again despite it being out of town a little.

Location and quick response of the staff. Everything runs smoothly.

I was not informed about the situation when a stranger have to share a bedroom of 5 single beds with my family of 4. It was not comfortable for the two nights.

Great vibes in the whole place, friendly guests to easy communicate, First time trying out the kitchen facilities. Brilliant enough of everything to cook with for more than 4 parties at any time. Super clean. Internet function is pretty good also on the top floor room, never stayed there before.

According to my little person, who joined me on this business venture-school holiday time- "there is a creepy fish picture starring at me"😅 I loved the piece of artwork in the room... but I can see how it starled the little man

We had a bedroom with king size bed and private bathroom but this establishment offer a variations of rooms. It is beautiful building with a lot of space, fantastic location, perfect view. Kitchen is located in the middle building and it is the spotless place with a lot of gear for michelin start cooking. And probably the biggest kitchen I have ever seen. Washing is available with dryer or you can hang it outside. Pleof restaurants and trendy bistros and shops around.
