Nanki-Shirahama Marriott Hotel

Everything! But especially hot spring facilities and the hot spring tub in the room. Location was also a huge bonus, great to track around Shirahama on foot or by bus (or car). I hadn't bought a meal plan in my reservation but did try their buffet breakfast and it definitely delivered, though a bit pricey, the view of the ocean from the restaurant is lovely & it was great to have all kinds of options, from more American to European to Japanese for breakfast. Also booked a massage in the spa and staff were incredibly kind, service fantastic. Thoroughly enjoyed my stay and am already planning to stay again.

All staff, be it in the front desk, concierge or restaurant, were very helpful and well trained. The place was nice, room very clean. The ocean view from the room was marvellous. We booked dinner in advance. Staff were very prompt in responding to emails and meticulous in checking our dietary preferences. Good quality of food.

The only thing we were not happy was there was no foam pillow which met our requirement. The standard provision in the room was something like feather pillows which were very low. We asked for foam pillows but it turned out that the “foam” pillows they provided were also very low lacking support. We ended up using our wrapped clothing and towels as substitutes.

The hotel is near to the beach, it has a lovely swimming pool outside. There is a great viewing area on the 11th floor where you can sit and relax looking out to the sea and on the same floor there are male and female Onsens. There was a wide variety of food at breakfast. The room with tatami area was very nice. Good size gym and laundry room.

There is a steep hill to walk to the beach which is a problem if you have accessible needs. No signage or info written in any other languages that you would expect from an international hotel. Waited a long time to be acknowledged by the lounge staff to order food, they only seem interested in the Bonvoy members and serving them. The food at the hotel is very expensive. Lacked the wow factor.

Room was huge and spacious, and the private onsen was comfortable. The views from the hotel room was also spectacular. Breakfast was great and had a good mix of Japanese and Western food. The staff were all very courteous and helpful, which we really appreciated! It was also right by the beach and our room was private and quiet.

The pillows were not comfortable - we chose to stay with Marriott because of their comfortable beds - so we were a little disappointed. Due to the private onsen being a little stuffy, we opened the window and left for dinner. When we returned there were many insects that flew in and dropped into the onsen (imagine a lotus pond but instead of lotuses dead flies) - it would be good if mgmt could've anticipated this and installed insect screens. The next day there was a notice at the front desk warning to close the windows to prevent insects due to it being summer, but it would be great if the hotel had been more proactive instead of reactive.

I had a lovely stay in this hotel. The room was big and clean, really good for its value. It is also very close to the main attractions such as the Sandanbeki Cave, Senjojiki Rock Plateau and the Saki-no-Yu onsen. However what made my stay exceptional was the staff, they were really friendly and professional. A few days after my stay, I realised I left something in the room. I contacted the hotel by message and the staff got in touch promptly and arranged for posting. They were prompt with their actions, they posted it pretty much straight away and I received it the next day, just in time before I left Japan! I have never left any reviews online for anything but I just have to this time. Thank you for much for making my holiday in Japan even more memorable!

We are touring around Japan, consequently the 15 or so hotels we have stayed in have been very mixed, from local guest houses to 5 star Tokyo stays. Our visit to the Nanki-Shirahama was special from the get-go. The staff were top knotch - a special shout out to the Malaysian member who checked us in (I don't want to publish his name without his permission) and the lady who showed us to our car as we left. The public and private baths on the 11th floor have an incredible view - we booked a private bath as it's the first time we have been able to use an onsen together. Breakfast and the bar had a very good choice and our room on the 9th floor was very comfy and had absolutely everything we needed. The staff here will go out of their way to look after you, if in doubt ask!

I couldn't find fault with anything.

The hotel is on a hill a few meters from the seashore with very fine, pale pink sand. It was a surprise! Raptors flew about and they were a magnificent sight to behold. Very spacious rooms and well-provided toilet&bath. Not the run-of-the-mill place, fersher.

You have to bring your own towel to the onsen…jeesh!

The uphill walk to the hotel may be somewhat challenging for elderly. I'd requested for a family room with sea view, albeit somewhat disappointed as I'd limited seaview with view of the car park as well as I was given a room on the lower floor.

Prior advice on options to get to the hotel and highlight any potential conditions to take note of (e.g. steep climb) if you travel via local bus. Good thing that we did not check in with huge luggage.

My room is with a private onsen, its clean and the view to the beach is beautiful. The water sound from the onsen runs all night and its so smoothing and put me to sleep right away after a long day. We were told you can ask the reception to turn off the water at night ! I highly recommend to have a private onsen so that you can enjoy it anytime of the day. Hotel have public bigger onsen on top floor but nothing special and they closes somedays of the week for maintenance.
