HOTEL MASTAY jingumichi

This was a very conveniently situated hotel with a lovely huge room and beds. Also a great bathroom with large separate shower room and modern toilet. There was ample room lighting options and the heating was very efficient - add in an in-room humidifier and you have real comfort. I always stay in the Higashiyama area on my regular visits to see friends who live on Sanjo-dori. This hotel surpasses all the rest that I have stayed in. An in-room washer/dryer and full kitchenette (and next door to a Lawson's store) makes for a very easy stay. Staff were super helpful!

A set of drawers in the walk-in wardrobe and a small bench in the room foyer to assist with taking on and off of footwear, with a couple of coat hooks for winter guests, would make the room ideal! But I am just being nit-picky here - the room was wonderful.

Love love love this place. It’s all in the details and Mastay is big on the detail - from the usb charging ports beside the bed to the microwave, fridge and washing machine .. the bike rental behind the hotel .. the code to get in the door rather than worrying about keys - all details added together made for a fabulous stay. Then to top it all off we left our camera behind by mistake and the kind staff looked after it for us for a few days until we were able to return to pick it up. The beds were super comfortable. The room was quiet. Location was fabulous as Higashiyama Is gorgeous and hotel is close to the subway for all other areas of Kyoto. Highly recommend this beautiful accommodation when staying in Kyoto.

Nothing I didn’t like - fab property

Loved the Higashiyama district and location, including proximity to a row of famous temples such as Chion-in, Maruyama Park, Gion/the famous 'slopes', Heian Shrine and Kyocera art museum (the Murakami exhibition was wonderful!) - as well as Higashiyama station and various bus routes from a transport perspective. Secured an excellent price (a combination of booking fairly early and an offer, so partly luck). Large apart-hotel style room with nice kitchenware and a much appreciated washing machine, complete with washing liquid. A self-sufficient home base for us while in Kyoto. Hotel staff were friendly (if seemingly universally young - or perhaps that says more about us), and were quick to respond to messages and queries online ahead of our arrival and during our stay. Free machine espresso during the day is a nice touch. Also close to a good Lawson store, which is just across the street.

Street traffic noise from two directions (we had a second floor corner room, putting us adjacent to two major roads). The loud air conditioning helped to alleviate this, but it wasn't ideal and soundproofing could be better. Towel/pyjama refreshing routine/process can be a little confusing and uneven (e.g. one day our towels were not taken despite being left out as instructed, and another day our pyjamas were not returned). The only (fairly minor) quibbles with an enjoyable stay, however!

The neighborhood was great—not touristy or loud and yet within walking distance to downtown, Gion, shrines—ideal location for those who don’t want to be in the thick of downtown. Our room was the two bedroom suite and it was amazing to have so much common living space for our family group of six. The fully stocked kitchen and dining and living room allowed us to spend time together comfortably throughout our stay. We had a similar setup in Tokyo but it cost almost twice as much—the value was amazing. Pajamas were a hit too :)

The only thing that wasn’t perfect is that one of the bedrooms was open to the living room, but it wasn’t as much of an issue in reality as we worried it might be

The hotel room is bright with both natural and excellent indoor lighting, roomy, and most efficient and functional setup in every possible way. The location is excellent, with easy access to all kinds of public transportation, and within walking distance to restaurants, shops, and even some of our favorite temples. ,with restaurants and other places within easy reach, yet not overly crowded and noisy with tourists, the staff was extremely polite, and went out of their way to make us stay pleasant. They helped to solve language problems for us with restaurants booking the house cleaning was great, with attention to details. Overall, we are very satisfied with our stay, and would not hesitate to recommend this place to anyone.

Not enough shelf space.

Location in Norther Higashiyama is superb combining historic and modern. Walking distance to many temples, and historic Gion, two excellent museum of art, and connection to the subway network of Kyoto from nearby station, also by 3-4 lines of city buses. Access from JRail station by subway (2 lines, 6 stops, 20 minutes). The apartment is very roomy with all amenities (laundry is in Japanese only and good web translator is needed to figure out how to run it). Pleasant cafes and restaurants in the area. Apparently bikes are available for rent, which enables further explorations.

Wonderful coffee machine available in the lobby, but only from 8-17:00 (5 pm).

The room is exceed my expectation. It's large, beautifully design and very well equip. Very close to convenient store, also 30 mins walking distance to Kiyomitzu-Dera is pretty good. Not far from closest underground station. Staffs are friendly with great service mind :D

My room type is a suite with 2 bedrooms and 2 restrooms. One of the bedroom share space with living, dining and kitchen. If you cook the smell can be troublesome. The TV noise can disturb people who sleep in this room. From 2 rest room, only one bathroom you can shower, so you need to take turn.

Hotel Mastay was the perfect place to stay for 1 week. It has everything you need, is a very good sized room for the city and has several transportation options close by. The room was modern and well appointed with a great shower/bath room. It's on the museum/zoo side of town so a bit quieter. Many restaurants are close enough to walk.

The rooms in the front are a little noisy from cars even with the double glass doors. it's not terrible but may cause discomfort for some people.

Probably our favourite stay during our whole trip in Japan. Very clear, modern and comfortable. The bath is very unique, it has a heater to keep it at a stable temperature making it very difficult to get out! Staff were very helpful, they booked a table for us at a restaurant we wanted to visit but couldn't book due to the language barrier. It's also located walking distance from the lovely cultural parts of Kyoto, and a very quick bus/the ride into the centre.

I came with my wife and baby, nice big room with a kitchen to prepare the solid meals for baby. Washing machine very much welcomed (needs a bit of figuring out), big bathroom! Near the train station, some good eateries around including one of the best tonkatsu specialist (Juju) I've had so far!

The hanging lights in the centre of the room are a nice aesthetic but we kept bumping into it especially if we sat on the couch lol. Otherwise our stay was perfect!
