Firstly it didn’t start well, we had paid extra to have a double bed and Seaview. On arrival we were given our key and went up to our room, it had twin beds, I went down to reception and politely discussed our issue with the room and the twin beds. The receptionist was very rude and told me there was NO double beds in the hotel, I showed him our paperwork and photos of rooms on their website, clearly showing double beds. He was adamant that they had no such rooms, they were fully booked and the option was to give me our money back and find another hotel. We had a heated discussion on his rudeness, I was very calm and explained we had travelled for two days to get here and I now asked to speak to the GM or owner of the Hotel. None available was the reply and clearly he wanted us to leave. At this point a colleague took over and asked me to follow him, we collected my wife from the original room and showed us another room on another floor in the Hotel, we didn’t expect what we were given, it was an incredible Suite, massive Double bed, lounge, 3 balconies with views over the swimming pool and the Sea. Thank you, Thank you. We then had an incredible stay with lovely staff, we did meet the owner, she was on site, the first person we meet we didn’t see again during our 6 night stay. Perhaps he was sent on a training course !

No iron, No kettle and Not allowed to take a cup and saucer of tea/ coffee back to your room, Health and Safety to both was the answer. For a fantastic Hotel we were a bit disappointed with the lack of facilities in our room.

Beautiful historical hotel (the first grand hotel built in San Remo in 1861) with a lot of character. Staff are very friendly and helpful. We had a cozy room with a nice balcony with table and chairs that we used a lot. Shower and towels are nice, the aircon is very efficient and silent. Sound proofing with the outside is very good. The cleaners are doing an incredible job in the rooms but also in the communal spaces. The breakfast buffet is very nice. Last not least: the seawater swimming pool is superb (no chemicals and no dead insects in the water). We have to pay extra for the sunbeds, and we did for a couple of days, which was actually very good and much cheaper than the ones on the beach. Location is very convenient (beach, town centre, cafés and restaurants and the 20-km coastal cycling path within walking distance). We had a fantastic stay!

Sound proofing with the neighbouring room was not as good as with the outside (there is a door between the rooms that doesn't seem very thick, which is a shame). Some bits are old and not very functional, for example the light switches, but that was not a major problem.

Breakfast was lovely. The room was great - massive. Bathroom massive. Very clean. A real nice place. You would have to really try hard to fault the place. And I'm not going to do that. You would actually miss out by not staying here and that says something. It is classy - the dining room is fabulous. Oh and great staff. Very helpful. I saw some grim/negative reviews and don't recognise the hotel they describe. We ate dinner by the pool (a lovely pool) on 2 occasions. Food fantastic - both by the pool and in the main dining room. There is clearly a porfessional chef on the payroll. Best food this holiday in fact (I didn't stay every night here). Some of the reviews for this hotel.....I can only assume were drafted by trolls. This is a great place.

Nothing to report.

It was our second time spent in this very hotel. The bed is very comfortable, the view is astonishing, and the bathroom is spacious and clean. Welcoming staff and housekeepers. The location couldn't be better. We didn't need to use our car at all within Sanremo. I loved writing on the balcony. It gives utter inspiration immediately.

The twin room is although more spacious than the single, but one can hear literally everything from the other room, especially the parquet creaking. Fortunately, we only had one occasion, having to wake up at 6 am for a couple leaving next door.

Breakfast was lovely, plenty of choice and frequently stocked up. Sea view with a balcony was lovely. Very quiet hotel at night, close to beach and town. Marco the bar manager was fabulous, definitely the best part of our stay.

When we checked in we were told our room had a sea view and balcony, another member of staff questioned her colleague about this, they clearly were having some kind of disagreement between themselves. Pool was not open despite being advertised as open from June. Room quite small

The rooms were bright an airy, very good breakfast and evening cuisine, nice bar, sunny pool area, good service, very reasonable price. But that is just half the story. The history and old world elegance make this a must experience! To have conceived of investing in such a property, largely for the benefit of the British aristocracy in 1860, on the promise that a railway line would deliver such aristocrats is amazing. The decor is hardly to a modern taste, but has to be admired. The social impact of turning a backward area of poor agriculture and banditry into a tourist Centre with great jobs for so many is worth reflecting on too. Quite an experience!

No British TV …. ha ha, but nor was there any in 1860!

Superb ocean view. Lots of variety in the breakfast, spanning from the classic italian one to the english and german kind. Freshly cooked scrambled eggs, bacon, toasts and baked sweets are only a few of the items in the selection. Restaurant on the poolside is great with respect to the paid price. Local specialties are available as well as more broadly appealing dishes, both meat and fish. A nice touch is that it is possible to also see the chef live cooking your plate. Flexible checkout, restaurant dining (until 22:00) and breakfast (7 to 10:30 am)

A possible note would be to improve the bathroom layout or add balcony furniture in line with the brand of the hotel, but otherwise nothing worth pointing out

You could see that hotel needs to be refreshed but apart from that it was very nice. The room was big and clean. Breakfast was really good. the hotel is located in a very nice area, but you need 10-15 minutes walking to the city center and 30 minutes walking from the train station.

The only thing we didn’t like is that they charge 7€ per person per day if you want to use towels and chaise-longues next to the pool, considering that summer season is over, it’s a bit excessive and in general it should be included in the price of the room.

Property had a lot of history (Victorian construction, famous past guests such as Charles Dickens, Giarabaldi). Large room with balcony view of Mediteranean. Excellent English breakfast included. Nice salt water swimming pool. Courteous and attentive staff.

Limited parking, but staff was extremely helpful in finding free nearby parking. Due to age of property, air condittioning not optimal, but room had nice breeze coming off the sea.
