Hotel Astoria

Hotel is lovely, service excellent, staff patient and helpful, breakfast was great, and the location is top - within a very short walking distance to restaurants, shops, the old city, and transportation via bus or train. There's also a parking lot just across the street.This is a hotel where we would definitely stay again and also recommend to any friends visiting Genoa.

We liked everything.

Newly remodeled to a high standard: marble floors and shower walls in the bathroom, recessed lighting, 14 foot ceilings, huge double-paned windows in heavy glass with beautiful thick velvet curtains that fully block the light, excellent soundproofing, good wifi, power plugs where you need them, extremely comfortable king bed, large walk-in closet. Breakfast was generous, I had scrambled eggs, cheese (there were usually 3 types offered), plain full-fat yogurt, tomatoes, several types of cut fruit, nuts, sliced ham, and was served as many cappuccinos as I wanted every morning in the large, well lit, and comfortable breakfast room. There were also many cakes and pastries available. All of the staff were very helpful and friendly. I stayed for 10 days in December 2021.

Would have been nice to have a coffee maker in the room. Location was a little further from Genoa's medieval old town than I wanted, which took about 10-12 minutes to reach by foot. On the other hand, the hotel is a 3 minutes walk to Brignole train station, and directly on the edge of the very lively pedestrianized area centered around Piazza Colombo that is filled with shops and restaurants.

very dangerous shower cubicle, slippery, no handles, glass soap tray on the height of your head, no blinds in bathroom to avoid nabors looking in. no rails to hang up wet bath towels! Otis lift is probably out of a museum but works fine provided you are not in a hurry and have no suitcases

Very stylish, beautiful interior with historic unique touch. For me personally the smell of the place plays an important role, and this hotel smelled very good. Very helpful and welcoming staff.

Astoria and I started on the wrong foot, superior corner room ( and in every hotel there is a corner room) was not to our liking. Hoewever the manager and staff are extremely professional and friendly even with difficult customers like me. we got an upgrade (was not my intention) Wonderful room, very clean, breakfast is included and is very good. very friendly staff, good location , current ratings are fully deserved. When with car, good parking opportunities nearby. Genova, vibrant place and people.

Try to avoid corner rooms, however you cannot blame the hotel that they have them especially in historic buildings.

Very good breakfast, top location for visiting historic part of the city, very easy parking just 100m away, staff did very good job, loved the elevator of the early 20th century and the look and feel of the hotel itself

Somehow the smoke detectors manufactures thought it was a very good idea to check the detectors functionallity by polling it about 20 times a minute, resulting in two flashing led lights with the same rate. Very irritating if you try to sleep and ceiling was too high to do someting about it ourselves. Staff 'ductaped' the leds while keeping the functionallity of the detector. Good job! Second night slept like a rose.

Room was well appointed and clean, bathroom was spacious with nice amenities. Free soft drinks in the mini bar and tea and coffee kettle brought up on demand. Breakfast was varied and fresh with lots of local specialties. The location was perfect for us as it's 3mins away from the train station and we had an early train one of the mornings to Cinque Terre. The staff at the reception were helpful and accommodating, they quickly changed our rooms so we can have them side by side and one with twin beds.

The antique elevator, although charming, was often not useful as guests tend to forget to close the doors. Particularly annoying if you have things to carry up.

This hotel is kept to an excellent standard of quality. The room was spacious and well appointed and the free minibar was a nice touch. The bed was also incredibly comfortable, so much that we struggled to get out and explore in the morning! The concierge staff were also very friendly and made it easy to sort out taxis. Another nice bit of service was when we left out bags with the hotel to store as we were too early for check in, the hotel had bought them up to our room for us when we arrived back.

More hot items at breakfast would have been nice but otherwise it was a very good continental spread.

very nice property with comfortable modern rooms. we stayed here as it was close to the train station and we just had a brief overnight stay. It exceeded our expectations, was very comfortable and an easy walk from/to the station. lots of great cafes & restaurants around the hotel too.

The one negative is the shower, the entrance to the shower in the room we had was very narrow which wouldn’t be great for anyone of a larger frame. Also the rainfall shower head didn’t work only the small hand held attachment.

Very nicely presented hotel and rooms. Staff were great. Everything as expected, very nice stay, nicely located, meaning you get to walk and explore the city in quite a logical order.

Being very harsh, the only very very minor criticism - the grouting in the shower could do with a refresh, even though everything was very clean. Reason why I’m pointing this out is more to do with the price. At the price I’m paying I expect excellence with every detail no matter how small. And I’ve stayed in lower priced hotels with higher attention to the detail.
