IKIRU to live Hotel

I can only recommend this hotel :) My room was clean, spacious and really quiet, there are a lot of food options in the neighborhood, the staff was friendly, and I met really friendly backpackers and locals there. I was traveling solo and got sick, so I had to extend my stay on a short notice. Not only did the boss arrange me a doctor's appointment within 10 minutes when I asked for help, she also made sure to bring me there, made sure I had something to eat, brought me to a restaurant and asked if I needed anything more. Especially for someone traveling alone it was amazing to feel taken care of and she went far above anything I would have expected of any hotel! She is very knowledgeable and can recommend many places in Surabaya or places to visit on the island too. Thank you!!! :) :)

Although the guesthouse is not right in the city centre (about a 15-minute taxi ride to Alun Alun, the main commercial centre of Surabaya), there is a big supermarket (Bilka), some convenience stores (Indomaret), and a very friendly and nice restaurant (Belut Khas Surabaya) all around the corner, so it's actually very convenient. The girls at the reception and the owner Yuvi were so friendly and helpful. They had rich information on the local amenities for their guests, and really tried their best to take care of us - Yuvi and her mom even kindly gave us a lift to Alun Alun - bless them! Our family room was bright, spacious and clean, with lots of cute personal touches, and the beds were comfortable. The air-con and hot showers were all great. They offer 24-h tea and coffee in the communal area, and you could use their fridge if you buy fresh juice/milk, etc. For such a big room and good facilities, we felt it was great value for money. When we had an extra day to spare, we extended our stay at the guesthouse, which shows how much we liked it. We'd definitely stay there again if we ever go back to Surabaya.

The surroundings of the guesthouse may need a bit of getting used to, particularly with the hectic road (Ngagel Jaya Selatan St) on the south of the guesthouse making it challenging to cross the road. However, this is not the guesthouse's problem, and once we got used to it, we felt the location was great - we had everything we needed within easy reach.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was also amazing (I had the local options)! The room was spacious, and the AC made it such a comfortable stay :)

The only thing that was a bit uncomfortable was the bathroom situation. The shower and the toilet are right next to each other in n small space with no division, meaning that every time someone showers, the entire bathroom floor and toilet get soaked.

My family stayed here for 2 nights and loved Ikiru! The owner and staff are more than helpful. One took the extra effort to find cardboard so that we could wrap up our souvenirs. As for cleanliness, we haven't seen such dedication to hygiene outside of Japan. Even the shared bathroom was clean. The hotel was quiet as it's not on a main street. Plus, the breakfast was delicious.

On our way to the place (we were travelling by car from Bali), the host informed that the room was accidentally double booked by another guess and we were asked to find another place to stay. HOWEVER, in the end they offer alternative room (2 split rooms - which happen to fit us better!) with 10% off from the initial price. Hugely appreciated!

The room was in better condition than I expected, very clean. The staff was extremely nice and helpful. Great value for money.

Friendly and very helpful staff. Great location. The room is quite spacious, bigger than I imagined. They also provide breakfast, a real Indonesian-style breakfast menu instead of bread and jam, and the price is quite reasonable. The beds are comfortable too. My dad really enjoyed the stay.

Location is reachable by Grab, however, no convenience store such as Alfamart or Indomart within short walking distance from the guesthouse.

The service is good - They provide the trip to Mt Bromo and the transport to airport with a reasonable price. The staff is friendly.
