The Modernist Thessaloniki

The rooms are clean, Art Deco chic,spacious (Thessaloniki standards) and prompt a homely feeling to them. It was lovely to see unusual amenities such as Marshalls Bluetooth speaker and a copy of the Feast of The Goat in rooms. High ceilings and ambient lighting aid to rooms being relaxing . The staff showed great hospitality- welcoming and happy to provide assistance. Having spoken with the staff it is evident they feel strong loyalty and care for their hotel and client satisfaction. Great location, breakfast with various options, fast wifi, everything was clean and tidy. Attention to details; copies of The Monocle, merch organic smorgasbord and local art , elevates the quality of experience in to millennial luxury.

One could not imagine a more central location & everything was reachable by foot within minutes. Everything in the hotel was very modern, clean and taken care of. Freshly prepared scrambled eggs or omeletts was a nice touch. In the room we also had a small Marshall speaker which was a nice touch & also no plastic bottles in the room which was a plus.

Standard room for two people is basically too small - one should paid attention to the room size regardless of the description of the room. 18 SQM is too small for two people with big luggages - also there were no chairs or tables but this is understandable due to the room size. Breakfast area was very small, sometimes it was difficult to get a space and although service personnel was very nice, what was offered was rather limited.

It is easy to reach all the main historic sites, e.g. White Tower, Rotunda, Archeological Museum by walking. There are lots of good shops and restaurants also withing walking distance. Our tour bus pick-up was also just a short walk away. We asked for quiet rooms, and they were! Breakfast is an exceptional mix of sweet and savoury in the garden room at the top of the building. The reception team speaks good English, responds quickly to emails and is to be commended for their professionalism before and during our stay.

The hotel does not have a typical common room or lounge to gather in comfort in a lobby because the building is narrow. There is a small business center downstairs though.

We unexpectedly had to stay for a night in Thessoloniki due to a flight cancellation chaos to fly out the next day - driving from another city. From the moment of booking, and requests to prepare the room for our toddler, it was smooth and just wonderful. The staff were just all wonderful, warm, welcoming, and despite that we were early for check-in, they helped to try speed up the room being available so that we could check in slightly earlier after the long drive. The room itself was perfect - in size, and also setup. There was a cute little handwritten note. The decor was minimalistic, modern, quirky and artistic with cool little touches such as the vintage speaker which was a bluetooth speaker (amazing sound by the way!). The bed was AMAZING, super big, comfortable. Even with our toddler in the bed there was plenty of space for the two of us. All amenities you could possibly need are there, including slippers and dressing gowns. Breakfast was incredible, on the roof garden with a large selection of authentic greek breakfast goods, and also made to order eggs with all the extras. Location was super convenient and right in the heart of the centre. Walking distance to everything you could possibly need. If we will be in Thessoloniki again, we will definitely stay again at the Modernist!

We LOVED our stay at The Modernist! Location is top notch - walking distance from all the highlights of the city. The premises are lovely, modern look & feel, but still containing some of the antique features of the building (floor tiles!). Our room was clean, sleek and included a little balcony too, which we loved! What makes this hotel stand out from the rest is the staff and the personal touches during our stay. What a top team! You can tell that each and everyone has a passion for what they do. All the reccomendations the team gave us were perfect. A special mention to Chris at reception, who went above and beyond! But also a shout out to the wider reception team and the breakfast team (sorry we don't know all the names). Breakfast was delicious, lots of fresh, homemade goodies every morning on the green and spacious roof terrace. And...we loved meeting Pepper the dog (aka the hotel mascot!), the other dogs and the cat too! The hotel are doing a great job looking after these animals. The Modernist exceeded our expectations and we will definitely recommend to friends and family! Thanks again for the wonderful stay we had!

We had an great experience at this hotel! The location in the city centre was perfect, making it convenient to explore. The room was stylish, neat and clean. What truly stood out was the exceptional kindness and helpfulness of the front desk staff and desk manager. They not only provided us with a map and fantastic restaurant recommendations, but their friendliness made us feel right at home. The breakfast on the rooftop terrace was a delightful start to the day. The entire staff was incredibly nice and friendly, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere throughout our stay. A special mention goes to the body milk provided – it was so amazing that I couldn't resist purchasing one to take home. To top it off, I was pleasantly surprised to receive a sleeping mask as a gift from the hotel. It's these thoughtful touches that truly make a stay memorable. Without a doubt, if I find myself in Thessaloniki again, I wouldn't consider staying anywhere else. This hotel has won me over with its exceptional service.

Great room with view of the street yet double glazing meant it was peaceful and quiet. The breakfast was exceptional and in a lovely rooftop environment. What made the stay stand out for us was the exceptional staff. Everyone at the front desk was helpful and same in the breakfast area. Anastasia who cooked our delicious omelet was full of great information. The staff had a way of making you feel you were in their private establishment. This gave a lovely personal feel rather than an anonymous ‘hotel atmosphere’

Great location, in the middle of the city within walking distance to all the sites, great staff throughout, from the breakfast crew to the cleaning staff and in particular the people at the reception, always friendly, helpful and easy to chat with, the room was indeed modern (in the best possible meaning of the word), but the building itself is old (again in the best possible meaning of the word), there is a parking garage in the parallel for which you can get a discount, just ask at the reception

Staff - were AMAZING, I moved hotels and they took in my luggage as well as ensured the room was ready early for me. Room - was perfectly sized & stocked. The toiletries were dreamy & the minibar selection was great too Breakfast - was included! Also the variety on offer was insane, so much to choose from & again the staff were lovely I didn’t have any meals, but I absolutely loved the menu & that they collaborate with local businesses to provide to hotel guests. When (not if) i come back, will definitely choose this hotel

A very stylish and comfortable hotel (the bed, pillows and bedding were very comfortable), in a great central location. Everything is well designed and good quality, delivered with great attention to detail. The staff were excellent - welcoming, helpful, fun and friendly. Breakfast was varied and delicious and always served with a smile. Our cat was welcomed (she loved it too). We would highly recommend The Modernist and will definitely be staying again on our next trip to Thessaloniki.
