Syte Boutique Hotel Mannheim

Mannheim is not on everyone’s usual tourist destination, but Mannheim is known as a UNESCO City of Music and serves as a major rail transfer point, think you can get there from here. It is a mere 30 min train ride from the Frankfort Airport. For the overnight guest the Syte is ideally located, literally “a stone’s throw” (200 m) from the Mannheim central train station. Unusual for many lodgings closely situated to rail systems the surrounding quarter is pleasant, vibrant, safe to walk in and not noisy at night. The hotel is a boutique ~40 room venue that has been beautifully upgraded in an attractive historic building. In addition, unusual for a small venue besides a destination restaurant and meetings rooms there is a fitness gym and laundry for guest use. Adjacent to the restaurant is the “library” that has comfortable leather sofas and chairs. Of note, the background music was non-intrusive (You could hear yourself think) neither “elevator” or head-banger, making for a relaxing sanctuary to enjoy a glass of wine. Rooms are well-sized and should please even dimension-focused North Americans who regularly complain that European hotel rooms are too small. The bathrooms are spacious and have first-rate water pressure. Rooms are equipped with double-paned windows allowing for an excellent night’s sleep and contain ensuite controlled high performing air conditioning. There is a full-sized elevator for the stair challenged. The free Wi-fi performed flawlessly. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful, provided a great referral to a nearby excellent local restaurant. Breakfast served in buffet style, rooms can be booked to include. Finally, pricing makes this choice a definite good-value. This venue best suited to adult singles and couples.

Not much on the down side, Agree with prior reviews, “one pillow” not enough, towels “a bit thin” and could do with two full sized rather than one. The hallways were a bit dark, not a serious drawback. Restaurant was closed for dinner on Monday night so I am unable to confirm its reputation as a "destination".

The design was beautiful. Standard room was a bit in the small side, but the shower more than made up for it. We had drinks and appetizers in the evening- the food was delicious and the drinks were fun.

The TV in the room was an older version of a smart TV and we couldn't get it to connect to our phone. The receptionist did his absolute best to help us but unfortunately we were unsuccessful there. Based on the appetizers from the night before, we had big hopes for breakfast, but it wasn't on the same level.

Loved the decor, and the rooms were large. Staff were so lovely and helpful, spoke English to us which we appreciated.

Everything was great, the towels were a bit thin. Also the lighting in bathroom was not enough over the sink to do makeup. Really dark and the magnifying mirror (great addition) was falling off the wall. Also too dark to use it. These are minor, don’t hesitate to book here.

Stylishly decorated in dark colors, we both loved the decor. Mattress was hard and duvet was too light for me, but this seems to be the European way. We walked around and found a delicious spot to eat some Indian food for dinner. Breakfast was good compared to other hotels.

No mini fridge in the room. Mannheim, but this wasn’t the hotel’s fault. We stayed here on our way to Frankfurt from Munich.

The breakfast good, would have liked vegan options but the staff said if kitchen is given a day's notice they can accommodate. The furniture very tastefully done. Spacious and cozy room.

The ventilator in the bathroom went on randomly and was quite loud. The staff were accommodating and took a breakfast off for the inconvenience.

Great location. Great staff. Great service. Complimentary cold beverages next to the elevator was a unique feature at this hotel.

Service was a little slow in the bar area, but it did not affect my overall satisfaction. The rooms should be equipped with more bed pillows though, that is the only thing I would improve. One pillow is not enough.

Nice, comfortable rooms. Helpful and friendly staff. Breakfast done well — appreciate having the cheese and meat plates and the eggs done to order — I hope it saves on food waste. Also love that one can order old style cocktails.

Everything was great. I would have preferred a room on a higher floor.

Breakfast was quite good but could be better. General lighting just a bit too dark, which in the morning is a bit heavy when you are trying to clearly see the breakfast items. Depends on the weather outside of course, and evening is ok..

An excellent choice for anyone travelling by train, only a few minutes walk from the station. Despite the central location, we found it was peaceful enough to have windows open overnight. Room a good size with excellent facilities for luggage. Bed comfortable and seating ample. A good writing desk, well lit.

Breakfast seems to be limited by the relatively small area available. A very small buffet of cereals, juice and fresh fruit. A fruit salad composed almost entirely of chopped green apple and oranges does not impress when hotels in a similar price range are offering varieties of melon and fresh pineapple. A small “cake stand” such as used for afternoon tea comes, pre-loaded with cured meats, cheese and some salad veg: there is no prior consultation about what you might prefer to have, though smoked salmon was produced instead of meat. Hot food is also available upon request but no printed menu was offered.

The hotel was great. Will stay again. Great location, large bedroom, comfortable bed, superb bathroom, great staff. Nice to visit an hotel and it deliver on all aspects. We didn’t eat in the restaurant so unable to assist on this front. The breakfast however was great, lots of choice.

We didn’t dine in the restaurant which was not part of our plan.
