If the medieval city of Martel is a crown topping this part of the Dordogne Valley, then Le Petit Moulin is the jewel in the crown. It's perfectly located in a quietish street in the main part of town, and offers lots of dining tables, a Wine Bar and shop, plus 5 delightful hotel rooms. We stayed 2 nights and ate 2 dinners at Le Petit Moulin and were enchanted by the staff, the menu and our room. Camille, Florian and the other waiters know the menu and make excellent wine pairing suggestions. The chef uses local, seasonal ingredients and creates stunning flavour profiles. The menu is relatively small, which is a sure sign of freshness and home-cooked food. There is a starter and a main dish of the day to round out the offerings. The restaurant is open 7 days a week for both lunch and dinner; reservations are highly recommended due to its popularity. Owner Adrien has recently refurbished 5 bedrooms in this corner building, and ours was exceptional. The modern design combined with some older features create a lovely blend and ensure your comfort. The bathroom is gorgeous with two sinks, toilet, and walk-in shower. The buffet breakfast features hand-crafted croissants and pains au chocolat such as I have never seen during over 40 years living in France. Martel itself is a real gem; lively old buildings and everyday shops that show that real people live in the town. There is a good selection of restaurants to serve the many tourists, but we did not feel like we were in an overly tourist-oriented spot. All in all, Le Petit Moulin provided us with an excellent base for eating, drinking, sleeping, and exploring the area. We intend returning!

The food in the restaurant was delicious, they made my belly so happy! Thanks to the staff for their recommendations with food. 👌 The room was great, so modern with lots of character and with an excellent view. I stayed there two nights and I felt at home despite not speaking French. Shout-out to all the staff from Le Petit Moulin ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Special thanks to (sorry I forgot her name) but she fixed my room and knowing I had a cold she had the great gesture of leaving in it some ingredients for a cup of tea with honey, mint and lime. I really really appreciated that 🩷. Thanks Flo for your great attitude, friendliness and being accommodating during my stay. Martel is a lovely small town and Le Petit Moulin is a gem within it. I would definitely stay here again if I come back to Martel.

The room could be improved by having a full body size mirror. I was in Martel for a wedding so it would have been handy when getting ready.

Our stay at Le Petit Moulin was wonderful. They have a small number of rooms available above their restaurant, which is located just off the town square. Our room was spacious, quiet, and clean. It was also air conditioned, which was a key because we were in Martel during a heat wave. The bed was comfortable and the room was nicely decorated. Breakfast at Le Petit Moulin was delicious. They provided a spread consisting of coffee and tea, juices (including fresh-squeezed orange juice), fruit, yogurts, breads (baguettes, croissants, pain au chocolat), jams, meats and cheeses--all for a reasonable price. Everything was freshly made and delicious. The staff was very friendly, though because it's a not a regular hotel, you need to request new towels, fresh cups, more instant coffee, etc. We would stay at Le Petit Moulin again in a heartbeat. If you book here, do yourself a favor and also book a table at their restaurant!

Ideal location in a lively village that makes a great base for exploring the area. The rooms are within a restaurant so you come and go amid the activity of diners, but it adds to the ambiance. You are really in the heart of the village and it feels very authentic. The room was spacious and modern with everything we needed. We ate dinner in the restaurant and loved the food. We are vegan and, with notice, we were prepared a wonderful meal by the talented chef.

Along with the activity comes a bit more noise so be aware. They provide earplugs but we didn't need them. It quiets down fairly early.

The room was so spacious and in an original historic building, in the medieval heat of the towns. The restaurant was located just downstairs and served amazing local food and wine and walnut oil of their own production - family tradition.

There was a noice from a the street until very late hours - from a nearby pub with loud music played, such a pity as it was difficult to have a proper rest.

Excellent location a block away from the square. The rooms are above a cute and delicious restaurant. Noise was never a problem even our room was right above it. The room was well appointed. Nothing special, but adequate, comfortable, and had everything we needed. Air conditioning during our summer trip was a huge benefit.

Fantastic B&B with a lovely restaurant. Super clean room, massive sofa bed, great big bathroom and an upstairs mezzanine. It was perfect for a family of 4. Simple french breakfast. We had dinner in the restaurant, lovely kids menu, great seasonal dishes and local wines. Martel is a charming town, it provided a great stop on the way back to the UK from the south of France.

Our favourite stay during our entire 3 month trip. Amazing food and the owners and staff were lovely! Comfortable beds, breakfast is amazing, great cute small town.

Because the walls are so thick you can’t get wifi in the rooms themselves. We also had a family above us two of the nights and the footsteps of the children running around were extremely loud through the ceiling so I’m not sure I’d consider the room soundproof.

The room had a great big, comfy bed, a big rain shower, as well as a kettle with a selection of teas. It was nicely decorated. Good location - in the historic centre of Martel. The staff was friendly.

Our room was facing a street with a bar nearby, so it was quite noisy in the evening. We also heard music from the restaurant downstairs, but they stopped relatively early. It seems that the hotel realises that it is an issue, as we were provided with free earplugs. So in the end I slept well (we went to bed around midnight, I guess it might be more difficult to fall asleep earlier).

Very nicely furnished and decorated. Very nice staff. Air conditioning.

It was entirely our mistake for not informing ourselves better but the location is above a restaurant in a busy pedestrian area and there was a fiesta that night in the square nearby! They do supply ear plugs though and the AC meant we could keep the windows closed. Stairs are narrow and might not be suitable for some.
