I had a wonderful stay at this accommodation. Excellent central location in walking distance to everything. A friendly welcome and courteous and helpful staff at all times. The room and bathroom were of a decent size. The basic essentials are at hand. The bed was comfortable and the bathtub was an unexpected delight. The only one downfall is that although the doors and walls look soundproof, they are not. Unfortunately I was waken each morning (I had hoped to sleep in) early from the noise made by the cleaning team. And a neighbour guest who thought it ok to be banging on their bedroom door at 530 in the morning for over 30 mins. The management took my comments to this appropriately. The garden is a nice place to unwind and have a drink. Breakfast choice was abundant. Nice that is goes to 1200. Pet friendly but the charge per night of eur 20 I find over the top. If one is lucky one can park on the street in front of the hotel (8 euros for 8 hours 9-12 and 1409-1830). If not, one can park in the public underground parking two minutes away but unfortunately not as cheap as the street parking. Woukd highly recommend this place and look forward to my next visit hopefully soon.

Noise made by cleaning staff.

Lovely old hotel - at least where we were was. Great courtyard terrace for drinks and breakfast. Great location for exploring La Rochelle on foot (or by hire bike/scooter). Parking was close and stupidly cheap for a town trying to minimise cars. The staff were all fab too - helpful and chatty, happy to give recommendations on places they like to eat and drink too.

We had a suite - basically two bedrooms and an en-suite bathroom. And although the rooms were large there was an absence of furniture - it could have done with things like a coffee table, a fridge/minibar, and a TV you can stream too (it had two big TV’s) - I’m a little bemused why in this day and age I can’t simply stream from my phone or tablet to the TV in a hotel room?

You won't find a more professional and beautiful staff of people anywhere in La Rochelle or possibly in France! We were treated like royalty and with such kindness. The hotel is softly modernized but still Old World France and First Class. It's decorated tastefully and beautiful and perfectly located in central La Rochelle with a gorgeous garden and bar. It offers a delicious and varied buffet breakfast to enjoy. It's very quiet and private feeling but super convenient to all. I will always return to Le Champlain and would put it in my top 3 hotel experiences of all time❤️💐Thanks to all my angels at Le Champlain!😇❤️

Nothing could have been better with the service at Le Champlain except perhaps I should have booked to stay there longer! Thank you Le Champlain!

The hotel is lovely. A centuries old convent with a beautiful sitting room, garden and bar. The staff was so helpful and friendly. We loved the location. Walking distance to the old port and all that has to offer but situated in a quiet part of the neighborhood just behind the cathedral square. The hotel renovations kept much if the old world charm but injected some high design elements. Our room has a little balcony but we spent time in the garden, instead. We would love to return. Thanks for a great stay.

The lighting at the top of the stairs heading into the newer wing is nonexistent. There’s no handrail and using this portion of the stairway is treacherous.

The hotel is in a lovely old building, with a tranquil garden just outside the main city area and within easy walking distance of the port and attractions. The staff were lovely: polite, friendly, considerate ... We were given an upgrade to a large room overlooking the garden, which was perfect for our stay. We enjoyed a drink in the garden each evening, served by a charming waiter. Perfect and we will be back soon!

The shower over the bath did not work well for me because of concerns about a possible fall.

Stayed for 2 nights in December to watch a Rugby match. La Rochelle is a beautiful historic port and the hotel fits perfectly. It's an old building but typically French and you'll not be disappointed with high ceilings, panelling and architrave. The hotel staff were wonderful. The breakfast was great with plenty of hot and cold food. We travelled by car and there is a council run car park about 2 minutes walk away where the hotel has discount prices. Overall, delighted and we will come back again - in the summer this time. Or the Rugby of course.

Perfect location, easy to get there by car. In the heart of the city, easily walking to everywhere. Friendly and professional personnel. Clean, spacious and comfortable rooms, stylishly decorated. Beautiful garden. Abundant breakfast. Everything was more than excellent.

The nearest parking costs 15 euros per day, not 8 as it was announced during the booking. The wife in the common reas was weak, in the rooms was quite good though.

Staff, decor, location, bar, garden all good. There is no restaurant but the bar food menu more than compensates for this. Menu is carefully thought out with appetising dishes for when you just want a light meal or are too tired to go out.

Our standard room and bathroom were a bit too small and there was no mirror in the bedroom. Lighting was a bit gloomy. Would stay again but in a superior room.

Beautiful period property with interesting history, an oasis of tranquility in the midst of the hustle and bustle of La Rochelle. Jean Fossati, front of house staff was exceptional, he was always polite, attentive and extremely helpful, he made the hotel feel five star. Superb breakfast quality and selection.

Nothing to complain about, perhaps a finer evening dinning selection/experience would be more suited to such a nice Hotel.

We had the best time staying at the hotel. The staff were such kind, genuine people and were so accommodating and did anything to make our stay more enjoyable. The hotel itself is beautiful and tidy and is in an excellent location with short walking distance to the port. The garden is so stunning and was lovely to sit in when it was sunny. We stayed on the ground floor but it was so quiet and we didn't hear much noise from outside. Would definitely recommend staying in Le Champlain!

For our bathroom we had a wet room so the bathroom got quite wet when someone had a shower, it wasn't so bad as it dried up quickly but it may be irritating for some people. The table in the room was also quite small so when two people wanted to eat there wasn't much space, we did book a standard room though so maybe it was because of this.
